Work undertaken
John acts for a range of employer and employee clients, advising on all aspects of the employment relationship including:
• Recruitment issues;
• Drafting and reviewing employment contracts for employers and employees;
• Drafting staff handbooks and other tailor-made policies;
• Disciplinary and grievance procedures;
• Advising on company-wide contract variations and redundancy situations;
• Handling fair dismissals and avoiding workplace discrimination;
• Compromise agreements;
• Managing sickness absence;
• Advising on Employment Agency and Employment Business Regulations.
John runs tribunal cases on behalf of employers and employees and has achieved successful outcomes in cases in which he has also conducted his own advocacy. Recent examples include:
• Successfully defending a constructive unfair dismissal claim and securing costs against the Claimant;
• Securing dismissal of whilstleblowing and victimisation claims against a South London recycling charity;
• Successfully defending an unfair redundancy dismissal claim based on selection for redundancy;
• Defending a multi-claimant unfair dismissal and unlawful deduction from wages claim;

• Speaking on abolition of statutory dispute resolution procedures;
• Contributing to quarterly employment law bulletin;
• Provision of in-house training/seminars for clients.
