Event Summary

Everything 2014 applicant groups need to know to hit the ground running post approval

BWB and BDO present a free seminar for 2014 free school applicant groups.

With the interviews now over and the DfE decision regarding approval fast approaching we would like to invite you to an evening of talks from experienced free school professionals to ready you for the next stage of the free school process. We will outline the milestones and key issues you will come across during the pre-opening stage and provide advice about how to best prepare for these from the outset.

We will provide you with a timeline of the whole pre-opening period. Speakers will give in depth explanations of the preliminary areas which will cover the following:

  • Project management – different approaches, key issues to consider when planning and choosing a project manager;
  • Procurement of services – how to properly fulfil procurement requirements;
  • Governance and the legal structure of the free school – the legal structure of the free school, how the project steering group relates to the governing body, responsibilities of governors and legal processes to follow in pre-opening;
  • Top tips from successful free school openers.

Talks will be led by education specialist solicitors from Bates Wells Braithwaite and finance and project management experts from BDO LLP. We will also have representatives from successfully opened free schools and September 2013 openers to talk about their experiences. There will be an opportunity to ask questions of all the speakers throughout the evening.

We will finish with some refreshments and an opportunity to network and ask further questions.
