Event Summary

In this practical session, Lucy McLynn will explore the following employment issues for faith-based organisations:

• The opportunities and threats for faith-based organisations engaging in social media
• Best practice for use of social media in a faith-based workplace
• How to manage employees’ use of social media outside the workplace
• The importance of an appropriate social media policy

In addition, Mark Scodie will be looking at how faith-based organisations can manage defamation, privacy and other related legal risks online and in social media, including:

• An overview of the law relating to defamation, malicious falsehood, privacy, harassment and contempt of court as it pertains to online publication
• Can you control the comments of your congregation/followers?
• Examples of cases where things have gone wrong, and practical tips
