The government has committed to hold an in/out referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union by the end of 2017.

While a date is yet to be set for the poll, campaigning is already well underway.

Many civil society organisations are considering the implications of the referendum and thinking about whether to campaign for an in or out vote, and how to pursue that campaign.

But what issues should you be thinking about to stay on the right side of the law?

Join BWB for a roundtable with Simon Steeden and Rosamund McCarthy, where we will be leading a discussion on the charity, lobbying and election laws that will regulate the referendum campaign.

Speakers

Simon is a partner in BWB’s Charity and Social Enterprise Department. He is joint head of BWB’s electoral and political activities group and advises a wide range of household name campaigning organisations on both election law compliance and charity law restrictions on campaigning. Simon is a non-executive director of friends of the Earth England and Wales and is currently advising Lord Hodgson’s statutory review of the non-party campaigning rules which were amended by the Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Transparency Act 2014 (The Lobbying Act).

Rosamund is a partner in BWB’s Charity and Social Enterprise Department and advises a diverse range of organisations including charities, foundations and public benefit organisations that work nationally and internationally. She has a particular interest in campaigning and political activities of not-for-profit organisations and has provided compliance advise for a great number of high profile campaigns, both inside and outside of prescribed election periods.
