The Charity Commission is "at the very best sceptical and at worst hostile to charity campaigning", according to Rosamund McCarthy, partner at Bates Wells Braithwaite.

McCarthy's comments come in response to Paul Sussex, the new chief executive of the Charity Commission, who said that charities should not be given the "benefit of the doubt". Sussex made these comments at the Charity Finance Summit in London last Tuesday where she also stated that the Charity Commission is now focusing on "robust regulation".
