On 22nd June, BWB hosted the 2016 Stephen Lloyd Awards finale event. It was a fabulous and uplifting evening, hearing from the project leaders of this year and a privilege to hear from our first 2015 winners about the impact the awards network has had on getting their projects off the ground.
With funding to grant only two awards this year, this year’s winners are:
- Campaign Bootcamp - a hands on learning environment designed to give people the skills, network and confidence they need to change the world through campaigning. Campaign Bootcamp actively encourages and provides support to people not currently represented in the campaigning sector; in particular women, people with disabilities and people of marginalised cultures, faiths and ethnicities. For anyone who voted for them and/or would like to receive updates on their project, can sign up here.
- Canute – who aim to help reverse the decline in Braille literacy with a new digital Braille 'iPad', Canute. Canute will be the world's first multiline Braille ebook reader and an entirely new class of device to bring Braille to people who would otherwise be unable to afford anything other than massive, bulky hard copy Braille. Costing less than a Perkins Brailler or iPad Pro, this innovative Braille has already been piloted with two leading blind schools.
Each will receive £20,000 to develop their idea, and will also receive valuable pro bono support from the awards community.
