The Court of Appeal recently considered, in two different cases, whether occupiers of housing association properties should be subject to an immediate order for possession or a suspended order for possession (SPO), when in both instances the police had found that the properties were used to cultivate a number of cannabis plants.

Significant change proposed through the charity governance code >

A consultation process for the launch of the charity sector governance code, launched at the start of Trustees Week 2016, sees new and more detailed guidance included in the code, with an enhanced focus on delivering organisational purpose and direction. The consultation runs until Friday 3 February 2017. Those with an interest in charity governance are being asked to feed back their views on the code.

Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse blog: Chair announces new strategy >

On Monday, Professor Jay announced a new strategy to ensure the Inquiry meets its remit (see the press release and full statement). In particular, she expressed the view that the Terms of Reference are achievable because she is proceeding on the basis that the Inquiry will not seek to replicate a traditional public inquiry in respect of each of the thousands of institutions that fall within its remit.
