Experience

Luke advises a wide range of clients - including charities, social enterprises, responsible businesses and impact investors - who aim to make a difference in society at home and abroad. Many clients aim to combine profit with purpose.  

Areas of focus include designing innovative legal and constitutional structures and acting for clients making and managing impact oriented businesses and investments.

Clients vary from Governments, major corporates and investment banks, international NGOs and household name charities to purpose driven businesses, impact investors and entrepreneurs. Many clients are innovative and need bespoke, tailored advice.

Luke has worked on many of the most significant developments in the growing impact investing market, including: 

  • the structuring of key institutions such as Big Society Capital, Social Finance, Social Stock Exchange and Access 
  • advising the European Commission on the law and regulation of social enterprise across Europe
  • working in Government on the design of social investment tax relief
  • creating governance principles for community interest companies which are endorsed by the CIC Regulator
  • making the argument for the new statutory social investment power for charities
  • creating the official model documents and guidance on social impact bonds 
  • developing the legal and governance requirements for B Corps.
