  • Acted for the Advisory Council of the Warburg Institute in its successful defence of a claim brought by the University of London regarding the university's obligations as trustee to house, fund and maintain the world renowned Warburg Institute (University of London v Professor Prag and another [2014] EWHC 3564 (Ch))
  • Acting for charity owning an interest in a major sports venue in dispute with hedge fund owners of football club regarding unpaid fees for abortive sale of shares transaction and counterclaim for significant costs/losses by hedge fund owners for alleged breach of terms of heads of terms issues relating to the ultimate sale of shares to another major sporting club.
  • Acted for a national children’s charity in its defence to a claim brought under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. Negotiated a pre-trial settlement on terms advantageous to our client
  • Acted for a faith-based charity in an application for a grant ad colligenda bona pending resolution of a claim against the estate to which our client was a beneficiary
  • Acting for the claimants in successful proceedings to confirm the validity of their appointment as trustees of a large religious charity.
  • Acting for the trustees of a religious charity in successfully resisting an application by the trustee in bankruptcy to the charity’s former trustees for payment of charitable funds into the bankrupt estates.
  • Acting for an international charity in successfully resisting a claim by a former partner organisation for outstanding payments due under a funding agreement terminated on suspicion of fraud.
  • Frequent pre-publication advice to charities, NGOs and others as to the risks posed by campaign materials and other controversial publications.
  • Resolved a dispute between a charity and a commercial photocopier supplier which was claiming substantial fees under a maintenance agreement.
  • Obtained judgment and a substantial payment from a former trustee of the charity who had been remunerating himself contrary to the provisions of the constitution.
  • Advising a small dance academy in a claim for redress against a bank for mis-selling of financial products.
  • Resolved a dispute between a university and a prospective student bringing a claim for disability discrimination.
  • Representing a university in respect of an ongoing claim by a student alleging harassment and personal injury.
