Facilitation skills are no longer just for professional facilitators, but are increasingly becoming important for leaders, managers, consultants, coaches, trainers and others that work with groups. Great conversations and exchanges lead to better outcomes and lasting results.
For charity boards, facilitation can make an impactful difference to the quality of leadership.
How can taking a facilitative approach help groups become more effective? How can a facilitative outlook help participants to have conversations that make a difference and lead to better decisions?
This one day Vital Facilitation course is for seasoned consultants, trainers, board and committee chairs, CEOs and others who work with governing boards and/or advisory groups.
Participants will experiment with action learning – a practical approach that can be used with a variety of groups. They will use a range of tools and techniques including post cards, conversation cards and question cards to facilitate dialogues.
The day will cover the following:
- The role and core skills of an effective facilitator
- Differentiating facilitation from consulting, training, coaching & counselling
- A range of meetings skills
- Discussing governance and strategic issues in a way that helps the board and committees to solve problems and make better decisions
- Overcoming facilitation challenges – such as dealing with difficult or challenging behaviours
As an introductory course, Vital Facilitation assumes NO knowledge. The participant will start from the basics and be introduced to facilitation and how it can be used as a powerful tool to support a board, committee or any group.
Mark Trezona, Managing Director and Head of New Partnerships for BridgeBuilders STG Limited. He has worked as an independent trainer, facilitator and consultant since 1990.
