Evaluating board effectiveness is vital to achieving peak performance. The success of the evaluation process can either stand or fall on how it is designed, how indicators for success are agreed and how the recommendations emerging from the process are discussed, agreed and implemented. Participants in this board evaluation masterclass will explore the essential steps to carrying out a successful board effectiveness process to bring about lasting results.
How can you determine a board’s fitness for purpose, how can the board recognise and celebrate vital achievements, how can the board be fully engaged in governing the organisation? Tesse Akpeki (FCIS)
Tesse Akpeki, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, is a consultant in leadership, management, governance and personal development. She heads the Bates, Wells and Braithwaite London LLP’s Onboard Governance Development programme. For thirteen years she played a role in shaping the governance programme at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Attending a one-year leadership development programme run by Learn As Lead, San Francisco, USA, she completed intensive training on Community Development and Appreciative Inquiry and is a fellow of Creating the Future (USA). A qualified coach, facilitator and mediator, she brings a practical slant to the work she undertakes. Working with over 1000 non-profit boards nationally and internationally, she acts as a Leadership Coach, and undertakes governance reviews. She has authored 20 governance books and blogs for Civil Society Media. She has also studied with Nancy Kline, author of More Time to Think, A lawyer, she has served as a non-executive director and is a Governor of International Student House and Chair of its Governance Committee. Clients have included TimeWarner International, The Home Office, Amnesty International, Citizens Advice, NCVO, National Trust, BACP, Fostering Network, WaterAid, Action Aid, National Trust, UnLtd, Migrant Help, Charity Aid Foundation, Centre for Strategy and Communication and Centre for Charity Effectiveness to name a few.
