Bates Wells Braithwaite (BWB) has been shortlisted for Pro Bono initiative of the year by the 2018 Lawyer Awards’ panel of judges.

BWB was nominated as a result of its pro bono work on behalf of James Farrar and Yaseen Aslam during their high-profile case against Uber.

Aside from being a hugely significant matter that has potentially wide-ranging consequences for employees across the UK’s gig economy, the case upheld a previous ruling by the Employment Tribunal which stated that Mr Aslam and Mr Farrar have “worker” status under employment law and are therefore eligible for entitlements to national minimum wage and holiday pay.
