Abbie Rumbold, partner in Bates Wells’ Charity & Social Enterprise team, has contributed to a Charity Finance roundtable focusing on how Brexit is likely to impact on the UK’s civil society.

Speaking as part of a panel of experts which included speakers from Friends of the Earth and the NCVO, Abbie described the ongoing uncertainty experienced by some of her clients and contacts in the run-up to Britain’s exit from the European Union.

Referring to her client the Science Council, Abbie noted that the organisation continues to be worried about the future of collaboration between the UK and other bodies across the EU.

During this roundtable she also noted the likely impact of Brexit on the care sector. Given the impact of the living wage, the sleep-in care issue, an ageing population and ongoing local authority spending cuts Abbie explains, “as it stands, the possibility of sustaining care services is unlikely.”
