Experience

Suhan completed his training contract and spent 6 months as a qualified solicitor at Linklaters, before joining the Charity and Social Enterprise Department as a solicitor in November 2017. Having trained and qualified with a large city firm, Suhan gained experience in a variety of financial, capital markets and real estate transactions, including both detailed technical advice and large-scale cross-border projects.

Suhan now works on a broad range of charity and social enterprise matters, including charity formation and registration, general charity law, governance and legal structures, constitutional changes and compliance, regulatory compliance, and commercial contracts.

  • Advising on the formation and registration of new charities and social enterprises, including CIOs
  • Advising on grant funding agreements and conditions and commercial participator agreements
  • Advising on constitutional and operational issues for charities and social enterprises, including advising on conflicts of interest, procedure and other governance matters
  • Acting on mergers between charity mergers and spin-outs
  • Advising charities on their engagement with the Charity Commission
  • Drafting commercial agreements and financial institution terms of business
  • Advising on the application of, and practical compliance with, financial regulatory regimes (including the EU Market Abuse Regulation and the EU Recast Markets in Financial Instruments Directive)
  • Working on capital markets transactions such as medium term note programme updates and drawdowns, and standalone bond issuances
  • Multi-jurisdictional cross-border advice and project management
